Hi, i'm Kirstin Dawson!

I have always had a passion for fitness and have always enjoyed living an active lifestyle but being healthy has not always come easy for me.

Several years ago, after becoming frustrated with weight gain, I started Spinning at Courthouse Athletic Club in Grass Valley.  I learned more about my heart rate zones and how to work at different levels to obtain better fitness. I also learned how to use nutrition to be fuel my body and to become more healthy overall.  The pounds started to drop off.  I lost 16 lbs Spinning and lost another 15 training for a local triathlon, something I would have never dared before. 

Feeling more confident about who I was and what I could accomplish, I became a certified Spinning Instructor and began teaching at several health clubs in Nevada County. I also continued to compete in triathlons and local 5K s & 10K s, later trying a half-marathon and a marathon on for size.  I also became certified in Mat Pilates, Zumba Basics I, Basics II and Zumba Gold. One thing led to another and I became the Group Fitness Director as well as the Manager at Courthouse Athletic Club.  I was getting an opportunity to help others out of the same rut that I had been in. Fitness literally changed my life!

In December of 2008, the bad economy forced Courthouse Athletic Club in Grass Valley to close its doors for good.  I was laid off & so disappointed.  Because I lived in Weimar and had several friends asking for fitness classes in Colfax, I decided to try offering Zumba.  This being Colfax, I thought for sure that I might get a few people to come but that Auburn was going to be the place to succeed.

Boy was I wrong! 

Colfax Zumba classes started at the Sierra Vista Community Center last November and, (Thanks to the Colfax Soroptimists!), took off! Due to the overwhelming response and support I received from the Colfax community, I was able to lease the space that Studio Z now occupies.
